FedEx wants ID for at-home wine deliveries
Got Mumm’s Napa wine delivery from FedEx this week. Have always had to sign (adult signature).
This time, I had to show ID.
I laughed and said, “With this face?”
Delivery guy laughed and apologized and said yes. So I showed him DL.
I had to HAND IT TO HIM so he could scan the back. He said all that does is enter birthdate automagically.
This did not make me happy.
Too many companies/apps have my personal data. I don’t trust them because there’s no penalty when (not if, when) they have a data breach.

I couldn’t find anything on the FedEx site about ID requirements except for dropping off packages.
I can’t recall doing that but FedEx drop-off ID requirement was put in place three years ago to be able to track packages should they contain explosives. Most of mine are returns, though, which are delivered without being in a box. Possibly because of this same (bomb) concern although I’ve assumed it was to use standard box sizes.
THIS makes me believe that the delivery scan grabbed more than my birthdate. Have you ever known a company to collect less info than it needs if it’s easy to collect more?
