National media ignore Texas GOP call for secession vote in 2023

Major news organizations are playing ostrich. Again.

On Sunday, the New York Times devoted 1,000+ words to the Texas GOP convention. The headline focused on the claim that Joe Biden is an “illegitimate” president. The lede, that the party is moving “far-right.”

Nothing about the unambiguous call for a vote on secession next year:

Texas GOP platform on secession
“Texas retains the right to secede from the United States, and the Texas Legislature should be called upon to pass a referendum consistent thereto.”

According to journalist Casey Michel,

The @TexasGOP’s formal endorsement of a secession referendum is the first time any American state’s ruling party has done so since 1861. It also follows the first formal bill calling for a secession referendum, endorsed by multiple Texas GOPers in 2021.

Two firsts out of Texas, both resting — at least in part — on a baldfaced lie: that the 2020 Presidential election was pockmarked with fraud (but no other race had even a smidgeon).

Reads like news to me.

The Texas Tribune makes it clear that the 2022 platform is a “broad [indicator] of the sentiments of the most active Republican voters — those who dominate party primaries.” They didn’t mention secession…
